According to data from the General Administration of Customs, from January to July this year, the total value of Sino-US trade reached 2.62 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 28.9%, which was much higher than the overall growth rate of imports and exports, driving Sino-US shipping prices to rise sharply.

On the one hand, there is a strong demand in Europe and the United States, and on the other hand, some overseas areas are closed due to the epidemic. Customers cannot pick up the goods in time, and the goods have nowhere to be stacked, which requires extended time, resulting in port congestion. In addition, some hub ports are inefficient, with chaotic shipping schedules and turnover. The storage of goods and local goods together also leads to port congestion.

A person in charge of a shipping company said that at present, the available shipping capacity in the world has been put into operation. Except for the scrapped or overhauled ships, all the ships that can be opened have been opened, but the transportation capacity is still not enough. Now many shipping companies are placing orders with shipyards, but it will take at least two years for new ships to be put into service. Since there is no way to solve the problem of fewer ships in the short term, the multi-purpose ship has become a fragrant bun.

However, industry insiders believe that increasing capacity can only play a role in mitigation, not the root cause. The fundamental problem of the shipping industry is port congestion. If the port cannot load and unload ships quickly, no matter how many ships are put in, it is useless.

Regarding port congestion, one person believes that some overseas ports are outdated, with outdated facilities and disordered shipping schedules, which makes it difficult to improve efficiency and prevent large ships from docking.
